Currently, there are 20 beginning singers in the section of the preliminary choir. Their rehearsals are held twice a week, each Monday and Wednesday from 3.30 to 4.30 pm. Most members of the preliminary choir are between 5 and 8 years of age, but even younger talented children can join.
Preliminary choir members gain their first experience with choir singing; they learn necessary singing skills, so they can join the representing choir. They are learning how to stand, breathe and enunciate properly. Moreover, they make friends and get to know basic music terminology. Their musicality is constantly being developed – a sense for rhythm, the ability to improvise, etc. All this is done through children games.
At all Jiskřička’s major concerts, children of the preliminary choir have a chance to try how it feels to sing for a big audience. That is a great experience for them and a thing they can’t experience during the rehearsals.
The preliminary choir attends two weekend assemblies a year at Bratří Jandusů elementary school. At the end of each school year, certain preliminary choir members take transfer test and join the performance choir.
